The Heart of Florida Solid Waste Group comprises solid waste professionals from Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Gilchrist, Columbia, Hamilton, Hernando, Lake, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Sumter, Suwannee and Union Counties. The City of Ocala and the New River Regional Landfill also participate in the group. The group meetings are open to the public.

The mission of the Heart of Florida Solid Waste Group is to seek out viable long-term solutions for municipal solid waste management needs throughout the region. The Group serves as a venue for sharing resources, is an open platform for the development and exchange of ideas, establishing economies of scale, and becoming a credible voice of the legislative and regulatory communities for the benefit of the citizens of the Group.
